The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) received over 100 letters in opposition to NT Hydro’s proposed pumped storage hydroelectric project. These “letters of comment” represent all of the valley landowners as well as a diverse group of sportsmen, naturalists, conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts.
State and federal agencies as well as organizations and individuals (see right hand column), have filed fourteen legal motions to intervene with FERC. Objections range from wildlife and water issues to wilderness study area impingement. Regardless of the concerns raised, FERC granted the 36 month preliminary permit citing that “because a preliminary permit authorizes neither construction nor operation...the issuance of a permit will not affect the resources in question”
In the face of such bureaucratic hubris more action is required. If you feel moved to act in this matter, please click the Get Involved button.
